Granite Construction Begins Work on I80 Rehabilitation Project
at Truckee River Canyon
(Sparks, Nev.) — Granite Construction, one of the nation’s largest diversified heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers, has begun work on a $42 million highway rehabilitation project for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) to renovate Interstate 80 at the Truckee River Canyon from the Nevada state line to Floriston, Calif.
“Completion of this project will improve travel conditions on Interstate 80 and will restore weathered pavement on I80,” said Rod Cooper, branch manager of Granite’s Nevada Operations. “Completion of this project will significantly improve access from northern California to the east.”
The 5.3 miles of rehabilitation work will include removal of existing roadway and the addition of new drainage vaults, aggregate base, PCC paving, barrier rail and guardrail. Granite crews will work to accommodate high traffic volume while working within a limited area of roadway- between the mountain face and Truckee River. The project is scheduled for completion October 2010.
