Boys Council, Amicus, 180 Degrees To Host Facilitator Training for Adults in Mendota Heights, March 26-27
Program Findings Show Boys Gain Confidence to Attain Academic Goals, Avoid Violence, Have Greater Pride and Respect for Diversity
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Boys Council, an acclaimed program that promotes the development of boys and young men, is now registering participants for its two-day adult facilitator training workshop from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 26 and 27 in the 500 Series Room at Brown College, 1440 Northland Dr., in Mendota Heights, MN. In this skill-based, experiential training, attendees will learn how to implement the Boys Council model, a proven method of promoting boys’ and young men’s safe, strong and healthy passage through pre-teen and adolescent years.
Boys Council is the male adjunct to the widely-acclaimed Girls Circle program founded by Giovanna Taormina and Beth Hossfeld, MFT, in California. Boys Council is a structured group program for boys age 9 through 18. Boys Council is successfully being implemented nationwide in all youth serving arenas: schools, juvenile justice, mental health, child welfare, public health and youth serving organizations, offering boys and young men a program to:
*Challenge myths about what it means to be a “real boy” or “real man”
* Reject violence and define power from multiple perspectives
* Experience belonging and connection with adults and peers
*Make safe and healthy decisions/Discover the principles they want to live by
*Explore the meaning of healthy competition
*Develop empathetic skills
*Participate in fun and stimulating activities
*Find motivation and courage to act on their principles
*Become allies with girls and women

Boys Council is a division of The Girls Circle Association (GCA). Developers of the Boys Council Facilitator Training, Beth Hossfeld, Matt Bowers, Giovanna Taormina and others have a proven track record in bringing solid, effective strengths-based programs, training and consultation to communities serving youth, as demonstrated in the rating of its’ successful Girls Circle model as a “Promising Approach” by the Federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
